Yes, I wear combat boots

And I think I’ll continue to wear them until I take my last breath.  I find something downright appealing about them, and I love to pair my Doc Martens  with a long, flowy dress (which happened to be what I wore to work today).

I love discovering family-owned businesses where you know the folks who are running the show are totally in love with what they do.  That’s the impression I got when I stumbled upon a Georgia-based company called Sugarboo Designs.  It was during a day of Christmas shopping when I found some of their canvas bags in a shop in Pasadena.  These bags are whimsical yet functional and can easily fit your makeup, pens, and even a couple or three medication bottles!  Quite durable too, they’ve held up quite well with all the crap I throw in there.

This is the one I have, with this very eloquent Audrey Hepburn quote.

What are you wearing around your neck?

I think I feel naked when I’m not wearing a scarf.  I pretty much wear one year-round and love how they seem to make any outfit more interesting and polished.

Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a few scarves–from silky ones to warm and fuzzy ones, to everything in between.

Let’s take a look at some of these scarves, up close and personal, shall we?

Why am I here, and OH, new shoes!

I know what you’re thinking: Why on earth is this lady starting yet another blog about clothes? Aren’t there already 15 gazillion blogs just like that already out there? Be honest, that’s what you were thinking right? And the answer is YES, there certainly are quite a handful if not more, clothing and fashion blogs already out there in the world wide web.  BUT, out of those many blogs I have to say that I have found only two, okay, maybe three that I can totally vibe with and relate to. So by creating this blog, I’m hoping that you, a woman in her 40’s, 50’s and 60’s, will be able to come and find some fun yet practical, creative and stylish ways to ramp up your wardrobe and life.

I’d love this blog to be a place where you can discover that new wardrobe piece or accessory. Oh, and did I mention beauty products yet? And maybe even a recipe or two…
But first, the shoes
This morning I wandered into J Crew in Old Town Pasadena. I was determined to buy a pair of New Balance sneakers in gold tone and white. J Crew has partnered with New Balance and they’re carrying sneakers in some pretty funky and fun color combinations. I lucked out however because they didn’t have the shoe I wanted in my size, but thankfully the store associate was able to find a pair in my size from another J Crew store, and they will soon be delivered to my home. Score! Once I get those I will definitely share and review them here.

The shoes I did end up taking home with me today however were the CeCe ballet flats in a soft and lovely suede. These babies are made in Italy which surprised me because I had no idea that J Crew carried shoes made in Europe. I was immediately attracted to the color which is not a true red but more like a pinkish-red, or as the shoe box labels it, “fresh strawberry”. Doesn’t that sound so much like spring? At $128, and 25% off (a special sale J Crew was having for today only), I thought these shoes were a very good price point for an Italian-made ballet flat. They felt comfortable and walkable right out of the box, no “break in” period necessary. I love how the color pops and seriously, aren’t they just so cheery looking? I’ll report back on how they hold up in the coming weeks.
